NEWS ALERT. SPRING IN PALESTINE

by Lauren Booth on Tuesday, 3 May 2011 at 17:48

News Alert: April was another bad month for Palestine, although possibly viewed as a good month by Israel and its supporters in Europe and the USA.

There were 42 F16 and Apache helicopter attacks on the Occupied Territories; 88 other land-based attacks using weapons and dogs; 598 raids and home invasions in which arms were present but not used, and 12 Naval attacks on fishermen and land targets. In addition there were almost 300 night peace disruptions - vehicle borne loud -speakers, low flying aircraft, etc, between the hours of midnight and 6-00am.

The outcome was 23 Palestinian dead; 152 seriously injured and a further 49 beaten but without serious injury. More than 200 Palestinians were taken prisoner (held for over 24-hours), 421 were detained for questioning and harassment, and over 2,200 had their movements restricted at road-blocks and arbitrary checkpoints - including women in labour en route to hospital.

The Palestinian resistance sent missiles in the direction of the Green Line on 19 occasions.

All this in a land illegally occupied for over 60-years.
When will our politicians see Israel for what it is - a brutal occupying power intent forcing Palestinians from their own land and the principal cause of discontent in the Middle East and beyond?
